Happy Pants

Monday, March 5, 2012

Dear Olive,
We got our happy back. My guts picked itself up off the bathroom floor just in time to accompany me on a weekend fanfare of dinner, yum cha, a kids party, and a hens extravaganza. Sometimes I find it all too easy to feel hard done by in some areas of my life. But really, I have so much to be thankful for. And besides, if there's something I truly don't like, I hold the power to try to change it*. And that is really the thing to be thankful for.

*obviously, this has its limitations. I realise there are many people out there struggling against things they are desperate to change, but don't have the power to. Like fighting cancer, or trying to conceive a baby against all odds.

I'm so glad you're doing better, I also hope the things you want to change can be changed so you're happier.

I like your footnote! Sometimes I think that we'll all be at that point at times, so when we're not dealing with the un-changable, we need to hold up the people who are.

Not sure if that made sense, but as someone who's quite often in the doldrums, it helps to pull me out sometimes so that I can be there for others.

Anyway, I'm thankful that you're thankful! The sun is shining here and me and my Olive are off to belt out some toddler tunes...what more could I ask for?

Yes, the power to try and change it. Very true. I'm planning a bit of a change over this way after a visit to a naturopath today... wish me luck xx

I'm glad you're feeling better. There is always someone worse off than us, always, but it doesn't make our bad spirits any less relevant at that very moment. I never knew that at times happiness could be so elusive and that after 40+ years I'd still be trying to harness it unconditionally. I now realise that, for me at least, you never know everything, there's always something new to learn about life, about yourself, about finding happiness.
